UCA Farnham Graduation Show 2016

I have visited the exhibition with my today, it was the only day she had off to come and look around. It was also the first time I was seeing the space fully open and for public view. We live in London so the journey there did take a bit of time and I we decided to make a day of it because of the nice weather. It was a pleasure to see everyone's work together all professionally displayed in such a great space, the exhibition is open from 26th-4th of June 2016, so come and have a look if you have the time and see for yourself!

Grad show set up! UCA Farnham

The day has officially come for us to start putting our Graduation show together and it was really nice seeing some of my classmates to together again but It has not been an easy task getting everyone's work up, we were lucky enough to have our work presented in the James Hockey Gallery as we are by far the largest graduating year of 2016. When I arrived at the studio on Monday some my work was already layed out on the wall of the studio, and I was told that my work had already been selected for me which upset a little bit as I thought I would have a say in which work would be displayed, this frustration only grew throughout the day.

Although this was a very fun and rewarding experience I would not want to go through that again so soon. I understood that working and collaborating with others is a very difficult task, as the space was not evenly spaced out between our group and I personally found that there was a certain degree of favoritism among some of my peers. None the less here are some shots of the exhibition coming together.

Finishing off!

I spent the day finishing the warp I have currently on the loom as well as some cone and skein winding, which I finally got some images and even a video. I really enjoyed weaving this warp and have had a fun time learning and refining my skills as a weaver, but I do believe its time to move on and gets some industry experience and employment.

Final weaving

After hand-in there is one final week of studio use before the end of our term. I took this time to weave some more experiments for my portfolio. I used a very soft merino wool on the warp, weaving with unusual and fancy yarns I hadn't had a chance to use yet and a had some very successful results. I also tried to use some of my previously dyed yarns to reduce the collection I have at home. As this is the last warp I will weave for a while. I wanted to make full use of everything I had left over.

Collective Portfolio

Now I have a few days off, I have been working on building a portfolio and gather all of my best work together displaying over my degree and also some work from my A-levels as well. I admit I was quite good with photoshop and Illustrator before coming to university and I havent used it very much again until recently. Its caused me to go back and have a look at all my work and understand how its developed over time and I hope to start illustrating again as I really enjoyed graphics at my a-levels (I also got an A).

The final hand-in!

Today I handed in my all of my work for the final major project. It has been a very long journey and I did try as hard as I could to really produce the best work I could and I have learned a lot about myself in the process the critical reflection assignment really got me thinking about why I do things a certain way and what I actually like doing, what do I need to improve on and what I am good at. I still have a long way to go in this journey of mine.. and not sure what shape its going to take but, university has been the most interesting, scary and wonderful experience of my life... and I cant wait to see whats next.

Final sketches

With hand-in less than a week away I decided to do some drawing and illustration work to add to my work as I feel like I haven't done this in a while and I had a lot of doddles lying around indifferent note books and such I wanted to finalize those ideas in to complete drawings which I am quite pleased with. I have one more illustration and large scale drawing to finish but its nice to be so relaxed while pushing forward with my last bit of coursework.
